NEPAL

Nepal has a population of 22.4 million people, 44% of them
under 15 years old. This population grows at a speed of 2.4%
per year. About half of the population live on the terai (plains)
that border with India, and the rest on scattered settlements
on hills and mountains.
With a PIB per capita of 220 USD and with 45% of the population
living under the poverty threshold, Nepal is considered as one
of the least developed and poorest countries of the world. It
is frequently struck by natural disasters such as floods and
landslides.
The problems that affect children and women are higher on the
medium and far west regions and in the mountains, where the
poverty is more noticeable, the services less accesible and
gender discrimination more obvious. These regions are also the
epicentre of an armed insurrection which has aggravated the
poverty and hinders basic social services.
